Grand Canal Venice

Description

Grand Canal Venice is an original watercolor painting capturing gondolas resting quietly before the city awakens, enveloped in a delicate morning haze.

Venice and its boats have long fascinated me. I was especially intrigued by the history of Venetian gondolas. In the 16th century, gondola owners competed to make their boats increasingly elaborate and richly decorated. Eventually, regulations required gondolas to be painted black. Yet I noticed dark blue gondolas, and these were the ones I chose to paint.

I was drawn to the stillness of the boats and the atmospheric quality of the scene. Through the fluidity of watercolor, I wanted to capture a quiet moment in Venice, where the soft haze and restrained colors evoke the timeless character of the city.
